God must often deal with our own pride to get us to recognize our need for Him.  Jesus used the commandments, not to show that we can be saved by works, but to show that there is nobody ‘good’ but God and that we all fall short and sin against God thereby needing God’s gracious forgiveness in Christ.  The commandments serve as a mirror to show us where we are out of sorts.

Yield

Lord, thank you that Your provided Christ to save my from my sin.

Revelation

Sin ‘Marrs’ our soul and keeps us separated from God.  We often think of sin as evil actions and that is true.  However, this Bible text shows us that there are other sins that have become more ‘respectable’ in our culture.  The sin of pride can often be veiled but it can keep us from God.  The sin of the love of money can be presented as ‘motivation’ but can be just as evil as any other.  When Christ died to Mend you that includes from the respectable sins and, truth be told, there aren’t any sins that should be respectable in our eyes for they are not in His.  Repent today of any sin like this in your own life.

Revelation

There is no room in a Morphed follower of Christ to be hard-hearted.  When our head, heart and hands are surrendered to God then we will soften to His will and better love others in our lives…like our spouse.  There is much ministry in giving that love well to the one that God has given you.

Persistence isn’t just for when a child wants dessert or a new toy.  It has a place in the life of the follower of Jesus.  Show that the things you are asking for have a place of importance in your heart and mind by calling out to God regularly.  Either he will grant your request or he will change your need/want or he will change your mind.  These are all good outcomes.

Revelation

Prayer is communication with God.  Because Christ has Mended you by His sacrifice you can approach God’s throne of grace with confidence…knowing that He hears You as His child and through Christ.  This doesn’t mean we get over-confident or prideful on our position but it does mean that we run to that position often.

Revelation

The choice we make about Christ now can bring us from a Marred existence to a Mended one…in the here and now earthly life we live.  That choice also has eternal consequences.  To reject Christ is to be assigned to Meaningless Misery in eternity according to the Scriptures.  To accept Christ as Lord and Savior is to be given the gift of Marveling in His Majesty forever.  This is why there should be no ‘business as usual’ antics amongst the faithful.

Jesus’ friend dies…so He brings him back to life.  Wait, what?  Yes, Jesus here shows his disciples (and us) that He has power over death.  This is an important clue that should have empowered His disciples to trust that His resurrection would come after His crucifixion.  But, it didn’t.  When God does things we must extend our faith that He can do them again.
