Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word

Jesus was going to the Cross.  He knew it but the disciples still struggled to understand how this could possibly be good news.  He patiently walks them through His plan that includes much more than they realized.  God’s plans are always more involved than our finite minds will grasp at first.  It requires trust to wait as He works.

Yield

Lord, I believe that Jesus is the only Way to be saved!

Extra Discovery

Read Luke 4:1-2 and remember that it was by the Holy Spirit’s power He overcame the temptation straight from Satan.  You can too.

Revelation

Jesus promised to reveal Himself to His followers by the gift of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.  This is a gift that the world doesn’t have.  Now, the Holy Spirit does work in the entire world but it doesn’t indwell the entire world.  To the world, the Holy Spirit serves to convict and convince.  To the Christ-follower, the Holy Spirit is our closest companion.  He Morph’s us to be transformed into the very image of God.

3:16 Plan - Week 10 - Day 3 - Year 3 - Matthew 26:26-30, Mark 14:22-26, Luke 22:14-20

We enter Communion with God through Christ alone because of His great sacrifice.

Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word

Mark 14:22 - As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it.

Jesus gave new meaning to an old ritual (Passover).  Jesus still makes all things new today.  Let Him define the meaning of things.

Yield

Lord, I will regularly seek Communion with You.

Revelation

We are Mended by the blood of Christ.  This means that God ‘passes over’ our sin forever because of what Christ did if we have faith in Him that leads us to repentance.

3:16 Plan - Week 10 - Day 2 - Year 3 - Luke 22:24-30

God empowers us to be different than the position-grabbing nature of many.

Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word

Luke 22:26 - But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.

Jesus gives words to the foot-washing that He has done for the disciples.  They are not to position themselves to be first but to be last and thereby serve Him and His Kingdom in this counter-cultural way.

Yield

Lord, I will be Your servant.

Extra Discovery

Look back to Matthew 23:11 to see that this was a theme of Jesus’ teaching.

Revelation

Does God empower us with His mighty Holy Spirit so we can be somebody?  No, we are Morphed to be servants.  We are strengthened to serve.  We are given humble ministry to do in a way that gives God all the glory and leaves none for us.

3:16 Plan - Week 10 - Day 1 - Year 3 - Matthew 26:31-35, Mark 14:27-31, Luke 22:31-38, John 13:31-38

We depend upon Christ to keep us close to God.

Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word

Matthew 26:31 - For the Scriptures say, 'God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.

Even though Jesus had taught them clearly that He would die and clearly that He would rise again, the disciples would scatter when the betrayal began.  This is an unfortunate part of our human sin nature.  We run from conflict even when God calls us to stand firm.  Will you stand firm for Jesus?

Yield

Lord, empower me to stand firm.

Extra Discovery

Today’s prophetic glimpse of the scattering of the disciples was originally prophecied in Zechariah 13:7.

Revelation

Peter wanted to stand firm.  He had walked on water briefly with the same heart intent.  Why did he fail?  Even for the Mended follower of Jesus, Satan works overtime to continue to Mislead.  He still deceives, divides and destroys.  Our only cure is to stay in a state of surrender to God’s Holy Spirit who is greater than Satan.

3:16 Plan - Week 9 - Day 4 - Year 3- John 13:1-20

Jesus mission was to serve the will of the Father and that mission included serving you.  Amazing!

Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word

John 13:1 - Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end.

Jesus leaves the disciples with one final act that they would never forget.  He served them like a slave and showed them how to love others at the same time.

Yield

Lord, I will serve You and serve others as an act of love.

Revelation

Jesus ‘Knew’ His time was at an end and was motivated by His ‘Love’ for His Father and His ‘Love’ for His disciples.   This knowledge and love generated in Him a great act of service in the foot washing but more than that…in the obedience to the Father’s will to lay down His life as a ransom for you and me.  When we Know God’s will and Love God then we can obediently serve Him in any way He asks.

3:16 Plan - Week 9 - Day 4 - Year 3 - Matthew 26:17-19, Mark 14:12-16, Luke 22:7-13

Ultimately, God will only ‘pass-over’ our sin if we are saved by the blood of Jesus.

Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word

Matthew 26:19 - So the disciples did as Jesus told them and prepared the Passover meal there.

They had likely had the passover festival with Jesus before but not like this…now the disciples are preparing for a final gathering in an Upper Room where Jesus will give them His final instructions on what to expect after His death, burial and resurrection.  How important would your last words be if you knew your time had come?

Yield

Lord, I will heed Your Word.

Extra Discovery

Read Exodus 12 to get greater insight into the reason for the Passover Festival.

Revelation

When you place faith in Christ and repent of your sin then God Mends you forever and your sin is passed over.  Without Christ, your sin enslaves you.

3:16 Plan - Week 9 - Day 3 - Year 3 - Matthew 26:14-16, Mark 14:10-11, Luke 22:3-6

We must change our ‘what’s in it for me’ stance to a ‘what’s in it for You’ prayer.

Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word

Mark 14:11 - So he began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus.

Judas had been close to Jesus and had even followed Him for most of His earthly ministry.  However, this did not make Him a saved follower of Christ.  He true nature was shown in this betrayal where he rejected who Jesus was and looked for a way to betray Him.  We must follow Christ with all that is in us.

Yield

Lord, I will choose to follow You completely.

Extra Discovery

Go back to John 4:21-24 and note that today’s scripture is fulfillment to it.

Revelation

Satan cannot enter into a Christian.  He can not possess them (internal), only harass them (external).  Why?  When you are saved (Mended), the Holy Spirit (Morphed) indwells you.  Satan cannot reside where the Holy Spirit already lives.  Praise God for this comforting truth.
