As our last post of the week on this thing called the Spiritual Life...here are some wonderful truths to consider and apply.
We can now rely on The Spirit's power and not our own just like Paul did in 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 - When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan. For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.
As we rely upon The Holy Spirit's Power (and not on our own) God empowers us with Spiritual Gifts to use for His Glory. You can learn about these in several places but the emphasis for today including 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, 11) - There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other...It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
As you live within the Spirit's Power and allow God's gifts to change you then 'the Fruits of the Spirit' are the evidence of our Spiritual Life - our journey of being changed into His image. Galatians 5:16-18, 22-25 - So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
Lastly, many ask 'When do we get The Spirit?' Read Ephesians 1:13-14 - And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.
