The end of most anything can bring a myriad of emotions. We can be glad that a season of trouble ends. We can be sad that a good thing comes to an end.
Today marks the end of the year 2014. Maybe you will say that you will be glad it's over because you are ready for a clean start. Maybe you will regret that it is over for all of the things you feel you have left undone (New Years Resolutions, etc.). No matter the emotion, the calendar will change at midnight.
Take a look at this verse from Jesus as you ponder on the end of this year:
John 12:24 - I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.
Jesus was speaking about His own death. He is telling His disciples that His End (of His fully man life) must come but just like a seed that we plant...it's end would be the glorious beginning of something new. His death would bring eternal life to all who follow Him. That was an end worth celebrating...not to mention that He rose from that death on the third day!
Yes, the end of this year may bring mixed emotions but it will also usher in a New Year with new challenges, new opportunities, new relationships, etc. You may be able to look back on 2014 and say 'I'm glad that came to a close because look what's happening now'.
If you would like to celebrate the 'Old Year'...we are having a party tonight at 6:30pm at 1326 E. 24th St. in Casper. The folks from The Way are getting together to 'plant this year in the ground' and look to what God would have of us in 2015!
