Mark 1:2-3

Today's text is a combination of several prophecies from the Old Testament of The Bible:

It began just as the prophet Isaiah had written: “Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way. He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the LORD’s coming! Clear the road for him!’ ”

This messenger was John the Baptist.

Mark gives us these texts and then explains that John is the fulfillment of at least two Old Testament Prophecies.  The first is from Isaiah 40:3 and the second is Malachi 3:1. In other accounts Jesus shows that John is also the fulfillment of Malachi 4:5-6 (Matthew 11:10-15).

I am very thankful that God did not want you and I to miss His Plan and His Way. It was important to God that the Way of Jesus be prepared.  It was also important that we would know that He would send someone to prepare the Way...so we would know to be looking for Him.

Jesus was to show us The Way so we needed to get out of the way and make room so that we could see it and follow it.  John was charged with showing us our obstacles that would hinder us along The Way. Once folks recognized that The Messiah was coming they were to make room for Him.  That 'room' was heart-room and head-room.

How can you clear the way in your heart and head so that God has room?  What obstacles stand in the way?
