Grown-Up Truth

Jesus knew that the religious leaders were not earnestly seeking truth yet He still taught them.  We would hope and pray that they heard the truth’s from Him and applied them.  However, life is more personal than just hoping ‘somebody else’ did the right thing with what they had been given.  We must do something personally with what we have received. In this case, the disciples received a double blessing.  First, they heard Jesus teaching on Marriage and Divorce that was given to others…then privately, Jesus gave them a direct teaching:

[10] And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. [11] And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, [12] and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” Mark 10:10-12 ESV

Notice that the cynical questions of the Pharisees generated honest questions for the followers.  Notice that Jesus spoke very plainly here.  He didn’t give any permissions or exceptions.  It was black and white.  Covenant was Covenant and breaking it was breaking it…for both parties.  Jesus gave these folks some grown-up truth on this day.  His Word still offers that to you - EVERYDAY.  I dare you to open God’s Word with the eyes of an honest follower seeking to be obedient.  I dare you to lay aside any cynicism or criticism or preconceived notions.  I dare you to come to the teachings of Jesus like a little child (next weeks Scripture).  It is only then that you will be able receive the grown-up truth.
