If you love Me.

Jesus and Peter When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” John 21: 15

Earlier this week we have seen that the disciples have checked out. Situations have caused them to go back to the things they knew they went back to being fisherman. In today’s text Jesus appears to the disciples as they was fishing this was the third time He appeared onto them after the resurrection. Jesus gets Peter alone as the leader of the group and asks him the simple question Peter do you love me. Peter’s response was the expected one “Yes Lord you know that I love you” but his actions at the time did not display that.

We did our family prayers some nights ago we went around the circle giving everyone a chance to pray. When it was my youngest daughter Victoria’s turn to pray the prayer sounded something like this ….  “Lord help me to get pancakes in the morning. Help Pappa to make good pancakes. Help everybody too eat good pancakes.” You can see that it is obvious that that girl loves pancakes!! Me as her dad that loves her with all my heart made sure that she got some pancakes! Out of my love for her I did that act of service and out of he love for pancakes she prayed that prayer.

When Peter responded to Jesus that he loved Him Jesus responded with “Feed my lambs”. Just as I made Victoria pancakes out of my love for her Jesus says if you love me you will do my work. Peter’s actions at the time were not in line with his answer.

If you love God with all your heart it will drive you to service for Him as you would want to please Him. We see in Luke 6:45 b for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Are you passionate about Jesus today? If we love Him with that deep sincere love we will do His work.

If Jesus asks you this morning do you love me what would your response be? Would your actions be in line with your answer?

My challenge for you today is to spend time with God and get filled up and let that love for God show in your every day actions. Love on people, share with someone in a need and share the Gospel.

Jesus say if you love me feed my lambs  ……….
