Who is the enemy and what is he after?

This brings up a huge topic that we are faced with everyday which is a reality that we completely miss on most days. When we get this wrong we find ourselves at a place where we have changed uniforms without knowing it and are fighting alongside the enemy.

Let’s do a quick examination here:

“My teenager just doesn't want to listen and I have no idea what more to do with him. We fight all the time and I am done with him. I don’t know what has gotten into him but I will show him who is boss so he better stop what he is doing fast”.

“My Boss is just in a terrible state today. What he is asking is totally unreasonable and the language he used is just unacceptable. I will give him one more chance and then he will hear from me!!”

“My spouse is just inconsiderate and selfish and I can’t believe that he/she would act that way. You better know that I am not giving in this time and I am standing my ground and if this does not change there will be some deep consequences.”

These are some very true and real examples that happen every day. See the problem with this is that you are fighting the wrong opponent and in the wrong way. When doing this you are fighting a losing battle and are completely taken out of play in the good fight.

We see in today’s text who is the opponent and what he is after.

……….. that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6: 11b - 12

This is a battle for souls not for things on this earth but something way deeper - eternal life. The Bible tells you that this is what your skilled enemy (the Devil and his soldiers) are after. So now that we know who the enemy is and what he uses in this battle let's look back at those first three examples above and how you responded. Knowing this truth gives us a better perspective on where that type of behavior comes from.

When you get mad at someone because of the way they act or by the things they do or by the way they treat you remember that it is just a way to get your focus off the real battle. It is not the individual you are fighting against is it? Today I want to challenge you to look at this type of situation from a higher viewpoint and at what is at the root of this.

Don’t step in the trap that is set for you!

Start fighting on your knees before God!

During this week we will talk about the tools provided to come out victorious in this battle for souls and how to eliminate the enemy.
