The picture at the end of our Bible text (verse 16) is incredibly beautiful:
And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them. Mark 10:13-16
If children and child-like faith can enter the Kingdom and be embraced in the arms of the Savior…does that apply for us as adults too? I hear many songs about being ‘in the arms of Jesus’ (here’s a great one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alghhEhQyzs)…but isn’t that a feminine idea or just for little kids?
I am reminded of the manly Peter when entering into the house for the Last Supper (you can read it here - http://www.esvbible.org/John+13/). Jesus is washing the feet of the disciples as they enter. They were literally in the arms of their Savior as He lovingly performed the act of a slave. Peter balked at this idea for many reasons. Jesus responded by saying ‘If I don’t wash you, you have no share with Me.’ A share of what? God’s Kingdom! No matter our age or stage, we can come to Jesus and be embraced in His arms. No matter our age or stage, we should desire the blessing and the touch of Jesus as He gives us the opportunity to share in The Kingdom of God.
In the midst of the busy life where we run like crazy and then fall down wounded and weary…let us arise and go to Jesus. He will embrace us in His arms!
