Read this Bible text for today’s devotion:
And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” (Mark 10:35-37 ESV)
Jesus has just told the disciples about the horrors of His coming death and the glories of His coming resurrection. In this, He has shown His disciples the great love of God for man. How do James and John react? They ‘Ask Big’! They go for gold. At first reading, it is easy to be frustrated with these men for asking for something personal and for possibly even being selfish at a time so clearly about self-sacrifice. However, think about what they are asking…they are asking to be close to Jesus - forever! That’s not a bad prayer!
No matter how you feel about their request, you can learn from to ‘Ask Big’ when approaching God. Not ‘Asking Big’ out of selfish motives or anything like that…but ‘Asking Big’ in such a way that your requests are clearly something that you need God to be able to do. Today, may your faith be expressed as you trust God and ‘Ask Big’ for His Kingdom to come on earth (in your life & home & work) as it is in Heaven!
