Today’s devotion is written by Johannes Slabbert - dig in!
And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. (Mark 11:13 ESV)
We see in today’s text that Jesus approached the fig tree and found out it had no fruit and mention was made that it was not the season for figs. Well let me ask you this - what if Jesus took some time off and said ‘You know this dark season in your life, it is during my off season so I will deal with it when I get back from my time off'. Man how hopeless would you feel? How many people would stop believing in Him? I can’t imagine not having Jesus at my side 24/7 through the good times to share my joy and appreciation with Him and through the dark times so I can lie on His shoulder and say Father help me.
My friend, the good news is Jesus never takes off and he is always the same. There is no seasons with Almighty God and for that I am thankful. Can I get a witness? Amen!
As a child of God, He wants to use you for the glory of his Kingdom. Therefore we need to always be ready to say yes God. I am ready! Use me. But how often do we say ‘Not today God, you know I had a bad morning.' or ‘Lord, for a while I am out of service due to what I have just been through'. See guys, the Bible says preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. (2 Timothy 4:2 ESV) Yes, we should always be ready to serve God no matter where or when. Friends, here is the cool thing - no matter what you are going through or what “season" you are in it is not your power, but the power of Christ in you, that strengthens you.
Sometimes during life’s toughest season God sends someone your way that is in need of Him and searching for a Savior. God does not send them to you to say let’s see if you will fail. No my friend, He sends them to you so you can be a blessing to them and the biggest thing is you walk away blessed and encouraged.
I want to encourage you today that when opportunities come your way to glorify God that you will respond with a “Yes, this is open season here every day”!!
