Work Interuption

Have you ever been just going about your business and working hard...and get interupted?  Maybe its a random phone call or a visit from a co-worker...

Today we see the ultimate work interuption:

Then Jesus went out to the lakeshore again and taught the crowds that were coming to him. As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Levi got up and followed him. (‭Mark‬ ‭2‬:‭13-14‬ NLT)

Levi has another name.  Matthew...yup, the guy who penned the first Gospel Account in the New Testament. Before he did that he was a tax collector.  He was not a popular dude.  Folks don't really love tax collectors today but this was even more true in that day...especially when you were a tax collector for Rome and you took taxes from your fellow Jews to give to their colonizers.

Anyway, Levi was busy about his workday and along comes the Savior of The World.  Jesus had come through these parts before so it was likely that Levi had seen Him and probably even heard some of His teaching.  Maybe Jesus had even walked by his tax booth before.  Levi was probably accustomed to people trying to avoid him.  This day would be different.  This day would involve the ultimate work interuption as Jesus not only stops to see Levi but calls him to follow Jesus as His disciple.  This meant more than a 15 minute break or even a vacation.  If Levi left his booth he would NEVER be able to return.

Unlike Levi, we do not want a work interuption from Jesus.  We need to carry The Lord into our work all day every day.  We need God's Power to strengthen us to work well.  We need God's Spirit to guide us into great decisions.

We may not see great value in the work we do or the particular field we are in (although I hope many of you do).  However, even if you don't see the value in the job, make sure you bring value to the job by how you do it.  God's Word says it this way:

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. (‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬ NLT)

If you didn't bring Jesus to work with you this week then let Him interupt you with these words: 'Follow Me and be My disciple'.  Hear him and do as He says.  Once you are following Him  He will be with you (always) whether you are working or playing!

Have a great week!
