Jesus had been challenged by the authorities and now was the moment of truth. What emotion or action would He express? It would be love:
Jesus said to the man with the deformed hand, “Come and stand in front of everyone.” Then he turned to his critics and asked, “Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” But they wouldn’t answer him. Mark 3:3-4
He would express Love to the man by calling Him out. You say, 'That doesn't sound like love to me." I understand. We don't like to be called out and we often don't want to be the center of attention. However, He was giving this man a chance to show faith. If this man would put his faith in Jesus and be willing to do what Jesus asked then he would be changed...forever. It is God's love that will often call us to stretch out in faith.
He expressed love to the authorities by showing them The Way once more. They had heard Him teach and give example yet had not believed. They would now see Him act. He calls this man out in front of everyone so that everyone would see it. It was for their benefit. All they had to do was pay attention. Likewise, if we will pay attention, we will see God's love expressed in our lives each day.
Jesus' Love would be expressed for us by releasing us from the burden of wrong interpretations of God's Law and delivering us to an 'Abundant Life' for the One who would, could and did fulfill all the Law in His perfect life.
Jesus Love was expressed to you so that you could be filled with His Love and express it to others. That is a huge part to get. God's Love is not just to give us 'warm fuzzies'...although that is a nice benefit. God's Love is expressed to us through Jesus so that we can be living expressions of His Love wherever we are living, working or playing. Remember Jesus Word:
So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (John 13:34-35 NLT)
