I was scared of it as a child. Were you? The only thing that scared me more were clowns. Don’t ask.
Darkness used to leave too much room for my imagination to decide what was there and what wasn’t. The first time I heard the below scripture I was very encouraged:
1 John 1:5 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.6 So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
God has no darkness. God is light. I needn’t have any fear.
Further, because there is no darkness in God, I should not have any spiritual darkness in my life. That’s good. I don’t like the stuff anyway. I shouldn’t hide the good stuff under the cover of darkness. I shouldn’t hide the bad stuff under the cover of darkness. I should live an open, authentic and real life in front of my God and everyone of His creation. Doing this will be one of the many proof’s that I love Him and have fellowship with Him. Doing this actually enables that fellowship because darkness & hiding separates us from fellowship but God’s light will bring us together.
We don’t have to be afraid of the dark. Our God is the light.
