New business’s start from the bottom…from nothing. Newborn children start out tiny. A College Career starts with registration of that first course. Like these things, God’s Kingdom started out almost un-noticeably small.
Mark 4: 30 Jesus said, "How can I describe the Kingdom of God? What story should I use to illustrate it? 31 It is like a mustard seed planted in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds, 32 but it becomes the largest of all garden plants; it grows long branches, and birds can make nests in its shade.”
Jesus wanted His followers to see that His mighty work would not be an immediate takeover but an inside-out transformation. His Kingdom was starting small…one heart at a time.
He wanted us to understand that even though it was starting small that it wouldn’t stay that way. Some reports say there are now over 1,000,000,000 (a Billion) Christians in the world. 1 out of 7 humans are said to claim Jesus is their Lord and Savior. It started with 1. That’s a pretty big Mustard Tree.
The Bible teaches us: 'Do Not Despise These Small Beginnings’ - (Zechariah 4:10). It is not the size you start at but the fact that you started. Growth can begin after and continue forever. If Jesus was ok starting His Kingdom Reign quietly and small then you and I can be too.
Are there parts of your life that frustrate you because they seem too small or insignificant? Do you give less attention to the small things? Remember the mustard seed and consider looking at those things differently.
