Today’s devotion is brought to you by my friend and ministry intern at The Way - Jeremiah Ward.
The crowds that gathered for the festival were surprised by the fact that Jesus was teaching at the Temple without any training.
Here it is in John 7:14 Then midway through the festival, Jesus went up to the Temple and began to teach. 15 The People were surprised when they heard Him. “How does he know so much when he hasn’t been trained?” they asked. 16 So Jesus told them, “My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me. 17 Anyone who wants to do the will of God will know whether my teaching is from God or merely my own. 18 Those who speak for themselves want glory only for themselves, but a person who seeks to honor the one who sent him speaks truth not lies.
The people at the festival were not used to someone teaching Gods Word without training. Even today some people are still not used to someone sharing Gods word without training. Sometimes we judge our ability and other people’s ability to share Gods word based on level of training or lack thereof. It is okay to be cautious of people claiming to share Gods word, however if what the person is sharing truly glorifies God then be open to them whether they have training or not.
If you are sharing Gods word for the glory of God then don’t be discouraged if you don’t have any training. Remember that Jesus and his disciples didn’t have training. The disciple’s only qualification was that they had walked with Jesus and listened to his teachings. We have this same qualification through our belief in him and our walk through faith with him. If you wish to find new or different ways to share Gods word then by all means seek some training. However do not think that you absolutely have to have training in order to share the word of God.
