We all have problems. Many of them are first-world problems but they still loom large in our lives. They hold us back. They keep us down. They grow and seem larger than they really are.
I notice that Jesus dealt with problems in one of two ways:
1. He healed and removed it.
2. He attacked and/or explained it using The Word of God. That was rather easy for Him since every time He spoke it was God’s Word. Sunday’s text at The Way was Mark 6:1-6. Jesus explained the problem of the lack of belief/faith in the people very clearly in verse 4.
We need to learn to do the same. We need to ‘glue God’s Promises’ to ‘our problems’. This week we will look at five of the most common problems and look at a couple of God’s Promises for that specific thing. I dare you to commit that Promise to memory and begin to meditate on it when the problem arises and/or gives you difficulty. If your ‘problem’ isn’t covered this week then look into God’s Word and find out what He has said about dealing with it (i’m happy to help).
Today, the problem is ‘Fear’. Fear is crippling if left un-checked. Fear is spoke of many times in the Bible. Here are two great Promises:
1. For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:13)
2. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)
Feeling fearful because you are alone? #1 will be a great reminder to meditate upon. God is not only with you but is holding you by the hand. He will help you in your time of trouble.
Needing to replace fear with something else? #2 tells you what should replace fear (power, love, self-discipline) and even tells you that God gives those things to you by His Spirit.
Glue God’s Promises to your fear. Let me know how it goes.
