What are you looking for?

In life, we have many choices.  One of them is what we will notice when we look at others.  We can choose to see a person’s good qualities or instead look at their bad qualities.  We can decide to see a person as we believe God would see them in His gracious view or we can look upon them with judgement.  The religious leaders during Jesus’ day had the same opportunities…even as they looked upon Jesus and His disciples in our two Bible texts this week: http://www.esvbible.org/Mark%207%3A1-23/ and http://www.esvbible.org/Matthew%2015%3A1-20/ .

Jesus had just healed many people but they saw that His followers went past the water-pot on the way into mealtime.  Jesus had fed 5000 but they saw that what they thought was more important (the ritual hand-washing) wasn’t done. They looked upon the Son of God with judgment instead of awe.  Have you made a habit of looking at God and His work without standing in awe of it?  Have you ever knit-picked the Creator?

Jesus brought grace into humanity.  He looked upon people and saw them with the eyes of The Savior.  He could have looked upon us and seen many, many flaws.  Instead, He looked upon us with love and mercy and then ‘while we were still sinners, He died for us’. That is a foundational part of the good news.  As you go about today, you can make a choice of ‘What you are looking at’.  Choose to see with the vision of someone who has been looked at by God and found worth eternal life by the sacrifice of Jesus.
