Who do you say Jesus is - Lover of Sinners

This week we look at the Confession of Peter.  You can use these two links to read it:

Mark 8:27-30 - http://www.esvbible.org/Mark%208%3A27-30/

Matthew 16:13-20 - http://www.esvbible.org/Matthew%2016%3A13-20/

Who do you say I am?  This is the question that Jesus asked His followers.  Peter responded ‘You are The Christ, The Son of The Living God’.  There are many reasons Peter would have answered this way.  He saw all that Jesus did (heal, teach, save).  He heard what the many prophecies said about Him (hundreds of fulfilled prophecies in the Old Testament).

Another reason that Peter decided that Jesus was God’s Son and His Savior happens to be one of the reasons that I decided it too - Jesus loved sinners!  He loved us while we were still sinners.  Only a good God would do this.  It is not in our nature to extend love to someone in this way.  Don’t get me wrong…anybody can try to do so…but we get tired and fall short.  Jesus extended so much love to us that He would sacrifice His own life as the ultimate expression of that love.  I believe that Jesus is who He says He is (God in the flesh) for many reasons but one of the biggees is that He loved me as a sinner.  Peter was a sinner too.  He fell short.  He said things that were wrong.  His emotions got ahead of His Spirit some days.  Peter would be forgiven over and over again by Jesus.

I say that Jesus is God.  I say that Jesus is Savior of all who believe in Him and Profess Him as Lord.  I say that He loves sinners.  That is good news.  Who do you say Jesus is?  Why do you say it?
