This was the first time they heard it. During this teaching, The Lord Jesus told His followers He would suffer, die and then rise again. They struggled to hear it. To them it didn't seem as amazing and glorious as it does to me now. For them, they had Jesus with them physically and didn't want Him to die. For me, I have Jesus through His Word and by His Spirit...and I long for the day He fulfills that final promise of His return.
He said He would come back and until then we should be proud of our faith not ashamed of Him. Read the last verse in our text this week:
“For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” Mark 8:34-38 http://bible.com/59/mrk.8.34-38.esv
Do you think much about the return of Jesus? Is that where your hope is focused in this life? If you are focused on something less than that then you are missing a great joy. Aim your life towards Christ and His Return. Serve Him until you meet Him. Be faithful and proud of the Lord who saves you. Live for Him in this generation.
