It sure feels good to get a compliment. It is nice to hear a mentor or parent tell you that you are on the right track. When a leader speaks over a follower, we call that a blessing. A verbal blessing is a powerful thing because it communicates love and care. When that verbal blessing is given within earshot of others then it can be even more powerful. A blessing can communicate much the identity of the 'blessee' if they will hear it.
While Jesus, James, Peter & John were on the mountain, they heard this:
“And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” Mark 9:7
The really cool thing about this is that this is the second blessing that Father God spoke publicly over Jesus. The Father was reinforcing the message...likely not for Jesus' sake but for the sake of Peter, James and John. He repeated this blessing so that they would each remember and know 'who Jesus was'. Knowing His identity was going to be very important because they had a long journey in front of them that would end at the Cross. God wanted them to know that they could trust this plan that included suffering, death and resurrection. The repeated blessing would assure them they were not on a goose chase.
Do you bless those around you with what you say? Do you think once is enough or do you repeat those blessings so that 'they know that they know'?
