Self-less or Selfish?

As our week’s Bible text begins, we read: And calling the crowd to Him with His disciples, He said to them, “If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. Mark 8:34

Jesus has just told His followers that His Kingdom would be brought into this world through the cross and through suffering.  He would deny Himself and lay down His life to save sinners.  Now He explains that if we want to follow Him we will follow that pattern of selflessness.  To deny ourselves is do something very un-natural. We are taught to pay attention to ourselves and to fill ourselves.  Jesus says to empty ourselves.  You can read the whole Bible text here:

Today, how could you live a self-less life instead of a selfish life?  How would that look in your relationship to God?  How would that look in your relationship to your spouse?  To follow Jesus, we must learn to do this.  Worried about giving away all and having nothing.  We’ll address that tomorrow.
