As you prepare for a weekend I ask that you take a final look at this week’s Bible text and focus in on these three words: Faith - Pray - Forgive:
As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. And Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.” (Mark 11:20-25 ESV)
Jesus told His followers to Have Faith when they looked at the miracle. Today, when a person looks at the miracle of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus He tells us the same thing. Have Faith in God.
Jesus told His followers to ask in Prayer that they might be able to see God work in them in a mighty way. Today, when a person puts faith in God they are told to pray to Him. Specifically, to pray that He would forgive them and would enable them to follow Him.
Jesus told His followers to make sure that when they pray that they had no obstacles in the way and gave forgiveness as example #1. Today, when we place our faith in God thru His Son Jesus we can pray to God for forgiveness and He is faithful and just to forgive us of all our sin.
Faith - Prayer - Forgive. A challenge for each of us whether we are starting a brand new relationship with Christ or whether we are striving to be closer to Him or whether we are looking at a mountain in our life that is overwhelming.
