Who do you say He is?

Johannes asks us this most important question today.  How do you answer?

In Today’s text we find the Pharisees get beat at their own game of questions. While trying to expose Jesus they end up exposing themselves.

[28] and they said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?” [29] Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. [30] Was the baptism of John from heaven or from man? Answer me.” (Mark 11:28-30 ESV)

They have seen Jesus do miracles and they have seen Him speak truth and they have been exposed by Him more that once on their wrongful beliefs and practices. The Pharisees had a role in society where they had lifted themselves up and basically they ranked themselves so high that they were trying to tell Jesus that they were more important than him.

This makes me think of our lives and conversations I have had with individuals. It made me think of authority here on earth and my final authority. In your own personal life you might have to answer to several bosses: your mom and dad, your pastor, school teacher, the government and the list goes on. But when it comes to your soul there are only two authorities: Jesus or Satan. The choice is yours. Everything and every choice you make in life shows you submitting to one of these authorities and sometimes without even realizing it.

The Pharisees did not want to answer Jesus’ question because it would mean that they would lose their authority and it would have some effects on their life that would make them answer for their actions to God and others.

So let me ask you today ‘Who do you say Jesus is?' Maybe this is a question you do not want to answer. Why not? You know that it means you have to give up your ways and surrender to Christ. Maybe this makes you scared and you have a defense planned if someone asks this question. Maybe you think that when you admit that you know who He is that you will lose all the fun you have in life or maybe you feel that you are not worthy. Some do not answer because it means they have to give up something like the Pharisees and this makes you constantly having to work to maintain that status and position.

I want to encourage you to make Jesus your authority today and here is why.  [16] “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 ESV) MAN HE LOVEs YOU THAT MUCH!!  And the Bible says [11] For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11 ESV)

These words are something that answers any doubt that I might have and that is something I want! This means that you don’t have to keep fighting this battle alone. He has plans for you that are better than you can ever dream and guess what - it comes free to you. Jesus paid it all.

So let me ask you today. Who do you say Jesus is? Who rules your soul?
