Thanks to Johannes for this thought provoking devotion today!
Where does success come from?
We see in today’s text that God set up the earth and everything on it for man to succeed.
And he began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a pit for the winepress and built a tower, and leased it to tenants and went into another country. When the season came, he sent a servant to the tenants to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. (Mark 12:1-3 ESV)
This was a place that is set up to succeed. It has everything you need. All you have to do is show up and basically watch it grow. We see that the owner freely leases this piece of prime property to the tenants. The hard work was done and the grapes were already established. This makes you think 'if only I could get a place like that I would treat that owner well and we both can benefit from it'.
But you see, each of us here on earth got a piece of “prime” property from the day you were born in the form of blessings from God. You see friend just like this parable we are set up to succeed and not alone but with the help of God. I want to let you in on a secret- God loves you even if you have not accepted Him as Lord of your life and he blesses you and helps you to succeed. Friend but we all can be just like the tenants. You have all you need to succeed in life and received it as a free gift from God. You wake up every morning and there is air to breathe. You have God given talents and the list goes on. So when you start getting successful in this thing called life and God says all I want from you is that you would acknowledge me by loving me with all your heart. He does not ask you to work 20 hour days all he ask is that you love Him. But you see we do not acknowledge that everything good comes from God so we reject him and say 'we don’t need you' or 'Look at my life, I have all I need without You.'
I want you to think about were true success really comes from and what it is. See folks as a follower of Jesus Christ I acknowledge that I would be nothing without the blessings of God I would not even have the small things that I take for granted on most days. True success is when you are in the perfect will of Jesus Christ and succeed with Him in the harvest field He has called you to.
So let me ask you again where does success come from? How do you measure success?
