Our Thursday Night Missional Community Group gathered at the Eastridge Mall last night to serve. They got to participate in a job that most people would think is not glamorous or special. They cleaned up after another group who has been working all week. You see, the un-glamorous jobs are still vital and when they don’t get done it puts pressure on someone else to do that job rather than the one they may be gifted by God to do. Have you ever seen a bathroom that has gone a long time without being cleaned? Yes, even the gift of tidying up is a gift of serving! Here are a few biblical references to how and why God gives different gifts to different folks:
1 Corinthians 12: 4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. 7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.
Romans 12: 4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ's body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. 6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
What is your spiritual gift or gifts? Do you realize that you have one? One of the joys of being a part of a church is putting that gift to work with others for The Lord Jesus. Are you doing that?
If you are - great! If not, why not? You are invited to be our guest at WindCity! Maybe God has set up an opportunity for you to serve and/or find your gift here. We meet each Sunday at 3:16pm. Currently, we meet at 353 W. A Street (The Link) but in a few short weeks we will be meeting in the Eastridge Mall (across from the Hibachi Grill).
