“Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” Then God said, “Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.” Genesis 1:28-29
“The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. But the LORD God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”” Genesis 2:15-17
God loves you. When He created us He gave us direction. Direction, that if we followed, would protect us. We needed protecting...from ourselves and other more sinister things.
Following God's directions would keep us perfect just as God had designed us 'in His Image'. In perfection, there was no worry, no sin and no sadness. Sounds nice.
Following His directions meant we would not have to search for our purpose/meaning. Actually, by following Him we would be assured in finding that purpose.
Doesn't that all sound benevolent? God had our best in mind. Rarely do we look at authority in such a positive light. Next time we are given authority over another, don't forget how God excercised it with us in the beginning. Every day we are under some type of authority...whether it be Divine or earthly. Don't forget that it isn't always a bad thing.
