Maybe you know the story that Jesus told in Matthew Chapter 7 where he compared a person who built a house upon the sand to one who built it upon the rock? Storms came and destroyed the sandy house. He was teaching the importance of a solid foundation and specifically a spiritual base that wouldn't shake or fold when stormy times come.
In Colossians 2 we hear a very similar teaching:
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him.
Why is this important? Well, storms don't just come in the form of weather. The rest of Colossians 2 details a myriad of problems that compete for and war against a follower of Jesus. If you are sitting on sand you will waver and you won't continue to follow him.
My prayer and hope is similar to what Paul says in Colossians 2:2:
I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God's mysterious plan, which is Christ himself.
This complete confidence can come into your life when Jesus is your foundation. Built your life on Jesus today.
