Our big devotional thought for today is this - Have I chosen to be or stay this way?
Remember, we are paralleling these two texts...The Potter and The Clay from Jeremiah 18. Read it here: https://www.blueletterbible.org/tools/MultiVerse.cfm?s=0002fS The second is from the New Testament and is the story of the man at the pool of Bethesda in John 5. In Jeremiah 18, for the potter to have a chance to mold or re-mold the clay it must stay in His hand and allow some potentially painful work to be done. Work the clay may not understand or appreciate until time proves it to be the best thing. Remember, the potter is Father God and the clay is you and me. Let’s not just off the wheel where God is working on us and then blame Him for how he has made us…that is the same as choosing to be or stay the way we are!
In John 5, the man has been waiting for a miracle for 38 years…Jesus has to ask Him if he wants to be healed. Why? Many people give up or aren’t willing to do what it might take. Jesus is asking him if given the chance does he still want healing or would he rather just sit and wait on the miracle he thought was coming (the angel stirring the water).
Let’s make sure that we understand that we almost always have a choice in receiving God’s instruction, molding, etc. We have probably all resisted it at some point. I know that I have. The goal is that we would not just look back with regret but that we would look forward with resolve. Resolve to obediently serve God by allowing ourselves to be molded. This Potter knows exactly what He is doing. You can trust Him. Let’s choose the path that keeps us in His hand today!
