So, we have seen this week that we can expect to have our steps ordered by God, experience diving appointments and have an illuminated mind…when we are surrendered to His Holy Spirit. That is awesome! Finally, we also see that when we are surrendered to The Spirit that we can expect to bear spiritual fruit in the world.
In Acts 8 we see the fruit of Philip’s surrender. His steps were ordered to go to Gaza and he went. He experienced a divine appointment with the Ethiopian man. He was given illumination into God’s Word and shared that with the man. Now look what happened:
...Philip told him the Good News about Jesus. As they rode along, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Look! There's some water! Why can't I be baptized?" He ordered the carriage to stop, and they went down into the water, and Philip baptized him. Acts 8:35-38
Had Philip not come would the man have heard the Gospel and been baptized? We don’t know but we do know that God used Philip in this instance. Yes, you can expect that surrender to God will require a huge commitment/change in your life but yes, you can expect that spiritual fruit will be born of it. You may not get to see it or enjoy it (for instance, Philip was moved on right after this event) but you can know that God is using you in the world. Talk about meaning and purpose!
Are you experiencing the joy this life can offer through surrender to The Spirit of God? You can. Pray He fills you with His Spirit so you can bear fruit today!
