A great challenge for our ‘argument happy’ culture from my friend Johannes:
We see in this week’s text that the Sadducees asked a question of Jesus on the resurrection. They went about it in a way that really had nothing to do with the resurrection. Here is what they asked.
“And Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection. And they asked him a question, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. There were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and when he died left no offspring. And the second took her, and died, leaving no offspring. And the third likewise. And the seven left no offspring. Last of all the woman also died. In the resurrection, when they rise again, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife.”” Mark 12:18-23 ESV http://bible.com/59/mrk.12.18-23.esv
Really what does this have to do with eternal life? In Heaven we will be worshipping and bowing at the foot of Jesus where we are his bride. No man and woman will be responsible for each other.
In today's life believers get asked so many things about what they believe. People will argue why it is not so or turn scripture a certain way to fit their needs. People will base their whole view and belief or lack thereof upon one sentence in the Bible. Us, as believers, get sucked into this and will use our energy towards proving our point. Let me ask you if you proved your point (for instance if it is a young earth versus and old earth) is that person closer to God. Did that make them look at their life and say “Man I need Jesus”?
All these arguments are because of one thing and that is sin and because of that people don't want to accept who Jesus is. Next time you want to prove to someone that your beliefs are right just go ahead and get to the bottom of it and ask who do you think Jesus is? Do you know that He loves you so much that he died on the cross for your sins so if you believe in Him you can have eternal life? Do you believe He is the Son of God? When you get those points dealt with all this other talk about stuff that really doesn't matter in the big scheme of things will no longer be a point of discussion.
DO YOU BELIEVE? Keep sharing Christ Crucified!!
