Word In - Word Out

I have noticed that my car only runs when I put gas in it…is this the same with you?  When I put nothing in it that doesn’t work.  If I put water in it that doesn’t work either. I was thinking about Mark 13:11 in regard to this:

And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

It is a huge comfort to know that God is with us in our toughest moments and that we can trust that He will equip us with the Words to say.  However, we would be lax to believe that He will just put those Words into us via osmosis.  Mark 13:11 needs to be seen in context with the Psalmist Word here:

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11

You see, when the time comes described in Mark 13:11, God will speak through you via the Holy Spirit by drawing up the Word that you have stored down into your heart.  Your spiritual life will run on the fuel you put into your tank. Are you putting in the ‘Daily Bread’ of The Word or is it full of some other thing…or just plain empty?

Maybe you have had this happen to you as I have…at tough times when I find myself needing help or find someone else needing help, I am often bringing up Scripture that I memorized decades ago that God then uses to minister in the present situation.  Had that not been committed to memory then it wouldn’t be there to come out.  What comes out of you in tough times?  That is probably a fair indicator of the fuel you are putting in and living off of…Word In - Word Out!
