Johannes reminds us that although Jesus could have called legions of angels to aid Him, He laid down His life before he took it up again in power!
And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the Scriptures be fulfilled.” (Mark 14:48-49 ESV)
This scripture made me think of how sad Jesus must have been for those who came and arrested Him. Think about it He was sent to earth to rescue the souls of men and to lead them to an everlasting life. Here he is on His way to the cross to willingly die for you. Yes, I said willingly. Do you know that when they had to position Jesus to put the nails in His hands and feet He did not put up a fight? Jesus went and laid on that cross waiting for the soldiers to nail him to it. Hammer hit after hammer hit as they drove the nails He laid there in pain willingly for you.
Jesus lived for 30 years before He began His ministry that we read of in the Gospels. For 30 years He seemed to be just the son of Joseph and Mary. Jesus lived a life of a humble servant. Then for 3 years he preached and proclaimed the Gospel that He came to seek and save that which was lost. He did this because He loved the people - me, you and the generations - so much that He wanted them to see the goodness of God and make a decision to follow Him. Jesus knows what the other outcome is ……….. Eternal torment in Hell.
For 33 years He humbled Himself and showed love and compassion to a world that rejected the creator. For 33 years He shed light in a dark world. In His 3 years of ministry He healed many and many got saved. He even raised some from death so that the world could see and believe in the ultimate power of God.
Then we get to this point. Judas leads the soldiers that were dressed in full battle gear to arrest Jesus. Can you imagine how sad Jesus must have been? This is why Jesus was sad...His desire is for all men to come to the saving grace He would provide for them...even the Roman soldiers and those who were with them. Jesus was sad because they chose to reject Him and made the choice to spend an eternity in the place Matthew 13:50 say is a blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Jesus does not want this for you!
Today the world is still doing the same thing. People study on why not to follow Jesus, they say he is not God’s Son, He gets the blame for every bad thing that happens to folks and when good times do come it is because of our choices and has nothing to do with Jesus. The world today has picked up swords and clubs, Cannons and AK47’s, and has built bunkers around their hearts because they feel the need to defend it against a loving God. If this is you want at this time then I ask you to strongly consider this.
The Year of the LORD's Favor The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; Isaiah 61:1-2
And then he died for you out of love so you can live.
For God So Loved the World “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17
Today, lay down you weapons and destroy the bunker around your heart and have a conversation with this loving, gracious Savior named Jesus Christ. He is waiting for you with loving arms to welcome you into His Kingdom. All you have to do is believe that He is the Son of God and ask him for forgiveness. Stop fighting and start living the abundant life.
