Mark 16 records some crazy stuff! Jesus has given His life for our ransom on that brutal roman cross and has picked His life back up in resurrection power. He is giving some final thoughts and directives to His followers. He closes with this:
These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.” Mark 16:17-18
Whoa! This may spin our heads a bit today because of the supernatural realities of what Jesus said. However, it includes a great promise that was a fear-proofing word for Paul in Acts 28:1-6 (read it here - https://www.blueletterbible.org/tools/MultiVerse.cfm?t=NLT&Retrieve=&mvText=acts+28%3A1-6%0D%0A&refDelim=1&refFormat=2&numDelim=1&abbrev=1 )
As Paul stood with a Viper hanging off his hand, he had a choice. Let fear cling to him with its venom (like the snake's) or instead he could cling to God and His Word. I have a sneaky suspicion that he remembered the words passed down by Jesus to the apostles and now even to us: They will be able to handle snakes with safety.
Yes, God's promises can seem radical at times but radical is just what we need.
