Do you prefer things to happen fast or to develop over time? Most of us prefer speed!
As Paul keeps praying for the Colossians, he goes beyond his plea that they would know, love and serve The Lord. He prays in such a way to give an indication as to the time it will take to accomplish:
Colossians 1:11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy,
Paul prays that these followers of Jesus would be strengthened by the very power of God to be able to endure and to do so patiently. Those are both time words. To know, love and serve Jesus we must be transformed. Although that transformation begins the instant we gain The Holy Spirit it doesn't complete until our lives are done. Endurance is required. Patience is too! We won't endure till the end without the strength of God's Spirit flowing through our lives.
Even more, the outcome of the endurance and patience will be a joyful existence. Are you joyful? Great! Are you not? Investigate the areas of life where your endurance/patience has failed you and ask God to empower you to go at it again. Get ready for a marathon and don't give up!
