Once we gather the spiritual knowledge of God our choice is to love Him or not. Nobody makes that choice for us. Yet, how much do we have to know about God before we can make that choice? After all, I made that choice at the age of 5...what could I really know? Truly, I was quite simple. I had heard two things that clicked in my heart and mind.
1. Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so (taught to me in song by my Mema).
2. For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life (first memory verse - John 3:16).
Did I know much? Not in quantity. Yet the quality was superb.
So, our 'knowing' keeps growing well after the choice of love is made but we come to know Him first as a loving Father. Some gained knowledge of God first as a judge and chose to follow Him out of fear of judgment. Certainly, that is one part of understanding and knowing God but only one part. Moving from the knowledge of His judgment to the knowledge of His love would have to be a glorious moment!
Do you have enough knowledge of God to make your choice? Do not let this become a 'head knowledge' decision only. In this life, you will never know enough. We are forced to make decisions every day based upon faith...this is no different.
The faith of a child that only had knowledge of those two profound things above is a reminder that child-like faith is still the key to knowing and loving God. We love because He first loved us!
