Bury the Hatchet

A quick Google search on the word forgiveness gives disappointing results in that you go down beyond the first page before you find anything biblical or Christian. It seems the world has more to say on this matter than the church. For our part, lets reverse that trend!

An old saying on this matter was to 'bury the hatchet'. The idea was to get rid of the weapon used to retaliate so that we could instead forgive. Oddly, when given this quote today, most people have an image of burying that item into the back of the person they should be forgiving.

We need a dose of perspective to forgive well. God forgives us not just for our sake but for His. Forgiveness is so supernatural that it actually benefits the giver as much or more than the recipient.

““I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:25‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Forgive today for your own sake. And for heaven's sake put down the hatchet!
