Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Ecclesiastes 1:9 - Nothing under the sun is truly new.
Read - Ecclesiastes 1-6
These 6 chapters can be seen as very depressing. This man who had everything decides that his life is without meaning. He has pursued pleasure at every corner and found no lasting joy or peace. This troubles him and causes him to even be fatalistic. A quick reading of the 3rd chapter shows that Solomon didn’t have a sure hope of anything better. As many in the Old Testament, even this wise man didn’t rest assured of an eternity with God…although the desire of it had been placed in his heart. These chapters show the sadness of a heart not assured of salvation nor eternity. You need not fall into this type of despair…trust Christ and find life!
Lord, help me to enjoy the life you have given me in spite of any pain or pressure.
Ecclesiastes 5:10 reminds us that ‘Those who love money will never have enough’. Jesus said it this way ‘for the love of money is the root of all evil’. Money isn’t evil nor good…but loving something that divides your heart is an idol.
Solomon uses the word ‘meaningless’ multiple times. This word’s root (Meaning) is at the heart of the message of the gospel (as seen in this diagram below). Searching for meaning begins and ends with God and His purposes. When you search for it any other way (as did Solomon) you will come to the conclusion that is musn’t exist. Have you found meaning in your life through a saving relationship with Christ and a transforming relationship with the Holy Spirit?
