Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Proverbs 4:1 - My children, listen when your Father corrects you…
Read - Proverbs 4-6
Solomon takes the gloves off and deals straight with the heart of man. Chapter 6 is one of the most direct calls to the follower of Christ to avoid adulterous thoughts and actions. Just in case we have justified what that is and is not, the Bible gives us clear guidance. It is going near the door of (not simply the act) an immoral woman, a promiscuous woman or another man’s wife. Certainly, the reverse would also be true for a female follower of Christ. God sets the bar high for us to celebrate intimacy within the marriage to the spouse of our youth and to flee sexual sin. Purity pays way more than it costs!
Lord, give me the light of Your wisdom so I won’t walk in darkness.
Here is a great summary of the sins God hates portion of today’s reading:
Chapter 4 is primarily filled with teaching on the gaining of Wisdom. Chapter 5 is primarily filled with direction on avoiding the inappropriate relationships available through sin. Chapter 6 has many things that the un-wise person can ‘do’ that will get them into trouble. Knowing God (Wisdom), Loving God (the true relationship to seek) and Serving God (rather than the to-do list of sin) is the path of righteousness. God is pointing us towards a path of growth and speaks so very clearly on the deceptive, dividing and destructive things that we must avoid in our life.
