Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
James 4:10 - Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
Read - 1 Kings 12:1-33, 2 Chronicles 10:1-11:17
The Kingdom is divided (as God foretold) and the pride of Solomon’s Son (Rehoboam) is the mechanism by which it is split. After all the work of his ancestors, he would see the Israelites split apart almost overnight. Prideful actions can lead to horrific consequences if we aren’t careful. God calls us to humility. Leadership requires this skill. It is a winsome and caring skill and heart position. Is your life marked by pride or humility?
Lord, help me to put away pride and to become a person of humility.
Remember the Golden Calf episode in Exodus 32? Isn’t it something that the Israelites are once again brought into Idolatry by a Misled leader?
Solomon’s Proverb teaches us that there is ‘wisdom in many counselors’ but we could add that there is ‘wisdom in many wise counselors’. Rehoboam first gets counsel from the wiser/elder men and that counsel doesn’t agree with his agenda so he seeks out his peer group to tell him what he wants to hear. This ties in to the Misleading of our Enemy. We can even take God’s Word and try to manipulate it to say what ‘we want to hear’. This is not a pure heart wanting to ‘Know God’. It will not end well. We could get what we want in the short term but there is a storm brewing for those of us that don’t truly seek out God’s Will. Will you?
