Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it.
Read - 1 Kings 16:21-34, 1 Kings 15:23-24, 2 Chronicles 16:11-14, 2 Chronicles 17:1-19
Ever wonder how your children may turn out? In these daily readings we mostly see evil kings bringing forth evil kings. Why? The old adage says, “like father, like son”. If you are the child, know that it doesn’t have to be that way. If your earthly parents aren’t good examples to follow then look to your heavenly example. God the Father has given you His Word and His Spirit to guide you. If you are a parent, look to the example of Asa and Jehoshaphat. Asa trusted God and led well and his child did as well.
Lord, I give my family to you. Help me to lead them in the way that they should go.
The seemingly random fulfillment of prophecy in 1 Kings 16 has significance.
Jehoshaphat shows great wisdom as a new king. Notice that he delivers God’s Word to his people who had been in a season of revival under his father Asa. He didn’t settle for status quo but expected that if the people could be trained in the ways of God that the nation would be stronger in every way. This proves true. God desires us to know Him and we come to Know Him through His Word. The enemy would deceive us into believing that ‘we are good enough’ or ‘we can settle for where we are’. Keep pursuing the Knowledge of God so that as your head is transformed so too will your heart and hands be.
