Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Psalm 119:1 - Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD.
Read - 1 Kings 22:1-40, 2 Chronicles 18:1-34
Often, people are asked to ‘go with the flow’ or ‘agree with the boss’. As a follower of Christ, we want to speak ‘truth in love’ with grace. Do not fall into the temptation (as Micaiah the Prophet did not) to water down truth just because a lie is going to be more popular.
Lord, I desire to live and speak truth so help me to Know Your Truth and share it.
Take a look at Matthew 9:36 to see another time the people of Israel were like Sheep without a Shepherd.
Why would the King of Judah (Jehoshaphat) still go into battle after the true prophet of God had said not to? Several deceptive possibilities exist…see if they match with why you could sometimes still do what you know is wrong.
- The voice of the majority swayed his mind. (400 false prophets)
- He didn’t want to leave an ally alone (Ahab)
Remember, Jehoshaphat was desiring to know what God would say about this battle. Once God revealed it, he didn’t have the fortitude to resist fighting anyway. Knowing God and His will is the right place to start. However, even once we Know, we must have some deeper heart decision to guide us to follow Him. This is where ‘Loving God’ comes in. Knowing Him should naturally promote a heart of love within us that will guide our actions into God-honoring service rather than worldly deeds.
