The time for judgement came in the land of Israel.  Baal-worship and evil leadership would be punished just as God had told them through the prophet Elijah.  Jehu is anointed king and goes on a series of bloody missions as he removes evil leaders.  As depraved as this sounds, he was following the word of the Lord who had given grace after grace so that the people would turn to Him.  Likely, God will not call you on a crusade quite this bloody…but God does call us to remove impure things from our own lives with the same fervor!

Yield

Lord, give me eyes to see how You feel about the things in my life and help me to remove anything that offends You!

Extra Discovery

Go back to 1 Kings 19:16 and see that God told Elisha to anoint Jehu.  Faithful to His Word!

Revelation

Joash becomes king of Judah at the age of 7 and reigns 40 years.  Jehoiada is the priest at that time and puts a strong spiritual influence on the young king.  As long as Jehoiada is alive, the king reigns well but when he died then Joash lost his center.  When our decisions are made by following another person (even a good person) we are subject to wander when that person isn’t around.  Our quest to Know God means we want to hear from Him directly.  Seek Him in His Word.  Enjoy seasons when He gives you seasoned leaders who can help you but do not count on them instead of fostering your own relationship with Him!
