Just as in Luke 2:8, God uses a lowly shepherd to do something big.  God searches the earth to find those that will be faithful to Him.  He is no respector of titles or pomp.  He searches the heart.  A shepherd can be used by God to prophecy to His people or to find the baby Messiah.  You can be used of God no matter what role you find yourself in…just be willing and ready!

Extra Discovery

The book of Amos wasn’t popular then and probably wouldn’t be now:

Revelation

Fire.  An attribute of God.  Hebrews says ‘Our God is a consuming Fire’.  Often, we match fire with the idea of judgment.  The book of Amos certainly shows us this picture.  First, the enemies of God’s people and then the ‘chosen people themselves’.  God’s people had forgotten how to do right and although they had all the outward signs of wealth and blessing, their hearts were far from God.  Fire.  Fire would bring them back.  When we are caught up in the decieving, dividing, destroying hand of our enemy, Fire is the type of discipline God may use to draw us out of our daze and into His gaze.
