Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Isaiah 17: 7 Then at last the people will look to their Creator and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.
Read - Isaiah 17:1-14, 2 Kings 16:10-18, 2 Chronicles 28:16-25
The last 3 days reading gave us hope that Messiah would come. We would know it because of the virgin birth. We would see it because He would shine light into the darkness. He would bring salvation to us. We end our week’s reading with a depressing ‘back to reality’ moment where the people are simply crumbling…spiritual and physically. From hope to hopeless. Often, our current predicament can blind us to God bigger picture. War today doesn’t nullify the idea of peace tomorrow. In the same way, we can have bad days, weeks and months…yet, the eternal hope of Christ remains and must remain our focus!
Lord, help me to keep my eyes fixed on Your future plans rather than today’s circumstances.
A summary on King Ahaz’s life:
Thanks to the Old Testament Prophets, Israel and Judah could continue to Know God and His Plans if they would listen. This would provide them with a choice. They could hear the messages and repent in the same manner that the people of Ninevah did when they heard the prophet Jonah. This would mean that out of Knowing God they could Love Him and Obediently Serve Him. They could also choose to plug their ears and go on doing what ‘seemed right to them’. This would mean they would choose to remain deceived on their future and on God’s plan. The results are clear. Division and Destruction begins to lead to death of the people and darkness for the nation. We also have a similar choice today? Will we hear God’s Word for us in spite of our surroundings?
