Idols are powerless to save you yet powerful to distract you.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Psalm 40:6-8 - I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”
Read - Leviticus 26-27
As God describes His plan in giving them the Promised Land the most important and exciting truth had to be the promise of peace! The most worrisome part of His Plan had to be the promises to Israel if they were contrary. Not only would the blessings be removed but they would be replaced with discipline and judgment just as bad as what the people saw happen to Egypt. Why? God was creating a people to bring about a Savior!
Sadly, the judgment discussed would actually come about generations later when the people rebel so far that God sends them into exile under evil nations like Assyria and Babylon. Even this was for the purpose of bringing the people into a holy relationship with God.
Chapter 27 has to do with redemption values. God gives guidance for details that might seem insignificant but, in His economy, no one and no thing is insignificant.
Lord, I desire to obey you and find peace.
Why would God end this book with a section on Vows?
God’s Word is filled with blessings for the obedient and discipline for the disobedient. This is not simply a ‘scale of balance’ but is a call to serve God in a worshipful way that brings Him glory and us good. There is a cause and effect relationship to obedience that is a vital part of Knowing God through His Word.
