Peace with God is gained by war with sin.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Luke 22:40 - On reaching the place, Jesus said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”
Read - Numbers 25-27
Phinehas acts against a grave sin in such a dramatic way that we would expect that God would not be pleased but instead he is given a ‘covenant of peace’. God raises up 600,000 in the new generation to replace the old who will not see the promised land due to their unfaithfulness. Moses is replaced by Joshua who is a man that will lead Israel in battle against the enemies of God’s Chosen people.
What is the theme? To gain peace with God we must train our weapons to continually war with sin. Personal sin. Church sin. National sin. These are all enemies of our soul that will rob us of God’s precious promises. The New Testament tells us to fight the good fight of faith…let’s do it!
Lord, I choose to engage in war with sin. Give me victory.
Read Exodus 12:37 in comparison to Numbers 26 to see that God had multiplied the Nation through these Wilderness years so that about the same number would now be able to enter the Promised Land even though the original generation would not.
One of the great enemies to our Love Relationship to God is a rival love relationship to other things. This is a powerful separator that can lead us into spiritual neglect and idolatry. God’s Word gives us important warnings in separating from sin and sinful situations so that our Love remains ‘red hot’ with God.
