If my relationship with Jesus determines my only eternal inheritance am I going to be wealthy or bankrupt?
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
As we take a second loop through the law, I am reminded of the man who cried out ‘God have mercy on me, a sinner.” Luke 18:13.
Read - Deuteronomy 18-21
The Levites gave up any earthly inheritance and relied upon the generosity of the people and the grace of God to provide for them. This is an additional sacrifice that was given.
18:15 begins a small prophetic section with huge significance. God told Moses that there would be a prophet like him later…and this pointed to the Messiah - Jesus! God also made it clear that the test for prophecy is 100% accuracy.
Chapter 19 shows the seriousness of justice to include safe harbor while it is found. Chapter 20 reminds the people that they would need to purge the land from evil by removing all of its current residents. Although this is harsh and difficult, it is the picture of the housekeeping that we must do spiritually to be fully devoted to Christ.
The end of Chapter 21 speaks of the curse of a man hanged on a tree…repeated later in regard to the curse of sin that Jesus took by being hung on a tree (The Cross) in Galatians 3:13.
Lord, You are my portion and my inheritance…beyond any earthly thing, I want You.
Look at the similarities between Moses and Jesus:
The Prophetic glimpses given in Scripture are so that we can better trust in God’s Plan. Knowing these and that they are fulfilled in Christ is a huge lift to our faith. Deuteronomy 18 is a big one!
