Warnings often appear as mere suggestions until it’s too late.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Psalm 119: 149 In your faithful love, O LORD, hear my cry; let me be revived by following your regulations. 150 Lawless people are coming to attack me; they live far from your instructions. 151 But you are near, O LORD, and all your commands are true. 152 I have known from my earliest days that your laws will last forever.
Read - Deuteronomy 27-30
Chapter 27 & the end of 28 has a litany of curses that the people listened to and agreed to by saying Amen. This was a caring remembrance of the abominable sins that separated the people from their God and thus ‘cursed’ them. The end of Chapter 28 (starting in verse 36) is a prophetic glimpse of the ultimate cost of Israel’s future disobedience…they will be given unto another nation. This will be fulfilled in future generations and we will study it later in this year.
The first half of Chapter 28 is the opposite in that it gives the blessings of Obedience. This can be seen as the promises of God for those who walk in His way. With these promises God casts a vision for a people who would lend but not borrow (have plenty), be the head and not the tail (leaders).
Chapter 29 outlines a realization and recognition of the sin that leads to the curses of 27/28. This realization and recognition always comes before true repentance will happen. The question for us is “Will we recognize and repent or recognize and keep doing the same thing?’
Lord, help me to heed the commands of your gracious Word.
Chapter 28:65-68 shows a picture of what we would call modern-day depression or even mental illness. These are very real things that have their root in sin (as do all problems we find).
Often times we become stuck in a rut. God’s Word will keep us out of the rut if we Know it and Obey it.
