When the time comes to pass the torch, what will be your final words?
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Psalm 90:2 - Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.
Read - Deuteronomy 31-32 & Psalm 90
Moses announces that he won’t be going to the Promised Land but that Joshua will be leading this new generation into God’s Promise. Leadership changes are almost never smooth nor easy yet this one was determined by God alone.
The Song of Moses in Chapter 32 is a closing testimony to the life of this man that God used to rescue His people and lead them through 40 years of wilderness. It is a call to remembrance. It also includes prophecy and proclamation of judgment.
In Psalm 90, Moses speaks of the years of our life and reminds us they are short. It is a call for God to return to His people and give them the same type of favor they experienced so often in the journey out of Egypt.
Lord, as I see how Moses ‘finished well’, help me to live a ‘no regrets’ life.
What can we learn from the ‘oldest Psalm’?
Chapter 31 lays out a plan to read the law in the hearing of the people and the Sojourner. This would be the means that people would come to faith in God - by hearing His Word. This is the primary way that God revealed his plan and reveals Himself. God’s Word still works that way. Isaiah 55:11 promises it won’t return void. Romans 10:17 says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Listen to God’s Word and come to know, love & serve Him!
