You don’t want to be on the wrong end of God’s justice and judgment.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Psalm 59:1 - Deliver me from my enemies, O my God.
Read - Numbers 31-32
Chapter 31 details the vengeance upon Midian…a people who had harassed Israel and whom Israel had sinfully intertwined thereby picking up pagan rituals that watered down their devotion to the One True God. God brings justice in a way that is difficult to read.
Chapter 32 shows two and a half tribes deciding to settle in a land that is just short of the promised land. Moses is ok, with provisions. Provisions included that they would not only go and fight with their brothers to secure the true promised land…but that they would lead the pack. They agreed to do so!
Lord, as You go before me in the spiritual battle of my life, help me to be willing to lead others in the fight.
Fast-forward to Joshua Chapters 1-4 to see how Reuben, Gad and Manasseh fulfill their vows in fighting with the rest of Israel.
The 2 and a 1/2 tribes that settled early are a remarkable example of the Christian walk. Our salvation comes when we grab hold of the ultimate promise of God in Christ (like these people grabbing the land). Yet, our faith calls us to keep fighting the good fight and to engage in spiritual battle with our brothers and sisters in Christ (like these folks would do later in Joshua). What compels us to do this? Only a true love relationship with God will cause a person to leave their comforts to serve Him.
